British Aerospace subsidiary Royal Ordnance was prosecuted successfully by the NRA in July over chromium discharges from its works at Birtley. Gateshead magistrates convicted the company on two charges of exceeding its consent in January and February, fining it £1,000 for each offence, with costs of £530 and compensation of £432.
