Countryside campaigners have accused environmentalist Tony Juniper of being prejudiced against grouse shooters, two days before MPs scrutinise his suitability to be the next chair of Natural England.

Juniper is environment secretary Michael Gove’s preferred candidate to chair the nature regulator, meaning he is likely to take to post, barring any interventions by the Environment Food and Rural Affairs committee. Juniper’s pre-appointment hearing in front of the committee will take place on Tuesday.
