Brexit stymies chemical checks on consumer products

The Health and Safety Executive would have participated in a new EU project to identify hazardous chemicals in products, but Brexit has intervened.

The European Chemicals Agency’s Enforcement Forum is currently coordinating two projects in EU and EEA member states. One is focused on articles and mixtures containing biocides, for both consumer and professional uses. It covers their use in children’s and sports clothing, building products, swimming pool equipment and personal safety equipment, with particular attention placed on the use of unapproved substances and compliance with labelling obligations. Paints and inks are also included.
