Government fast-tracks five garden towns with £3.7m funding

Five proposed garden towns comprising tens of thousands of new homes will share nearly £4m of government funding intended to fast-track the planning work necessary for their development, the housing minister has announced.

Proposed new communities in Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Gloucestershire and Staffordshire will share the £3.7m of funding following successful bids, Kit Malthouse said yesterday.

In a statement, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) said that councils and groups from across the country had submitted more than 100 proposals, with the five successful bidders each to receive an initial £750,000 “to help develop plans for vibrant, thriving settlements”.
