New team aims to streamline water infrastructure projects

Three regulators have announced the creation of a new team to support strategic water transfers and joint infrastructure projects.

The Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID) team will comprise of staff from Ofwat, the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate and is intended to help “ensure a smooth regulatory path” for new infrastructure, the water regulator Ofwat announced last week.

RAPID will be involved with inter-regional water transfer projects to provide resilient water supplies by ensuring that issues arising under the regulatory framework are addressed in a “timely and co-ordinated way”, Ofwat said.
