World’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone opens in London

Central London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (CCZ) entered force at midnight, setting the toughest standard for any urban air quality scheme in the world.

The ULEZ has the same boundary as the congestion charging zone, in force from 7am to 6pm on working days. However, the ULEZ applies 24/7, 365 days a year, charging £12.50 for the entry of cars, vans and motorcycles and £100 for lorries, buses and coaches, on top of the £11.50 CCZ payment.

Petrol vehicles that meet the Euro 4 standard and diesel vehicles that meet the tighter Euro 6/VI standard will not be charged and discounts, exemptions and grace periods apply. Taxis are subject to a separate scheme that banned new diesel models last year.
