Farmer sent to jail for failing to clear waste

A Lancashire farmer who failed to clear waste he dumped on his own land in Colne has been sentenced to six months in prison.

John Leslie Allison was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on 5 April after being found guilty of ignoring a court order to remove the waste. He had dumped the waste on a large field he owns and after pleading guilty in 2017 to operating a regulated facility without an environmental license, he was given until June 2018 to clear the site.

However, inspections in July and September by Environment Agency (EA) officers found that Allison failed to take any or adequate steps to remove waste from the field.
