DEFRA pushes back water abstraction licensing deadline

DEFRA will not bring water abstraction licensing into the environmental permitting regime (EPR) until 2021, according to updates to the department’s strategy.

DEFRA will now consult on the move into EPR in “early 2020”, according to the documents. Meanwhile, the Environment Agency is currently determining whether a consultation is required on abstraction charges.
