Developer ordered to clear rat-infested Nottinghamshire dump after failed appeal

Thousands of tonnes of rubbish illegally dumped on derelict land in Nottinghamshire almost five years ago could finally be removed after the planning inspector dismissed an appeal from a developer.

Almost 2,000 tonnes of mixed waste from commercial premises was dumped on the site on Bowbridge Road, Newark, Nottinghamshire, in March 2015. The land is owned by Newark Care (Notts) Ltd, which previously had planning permission for a 64-bed nursing home on the site. It now forms part of a wider site, which is allocated for 66 new homes.

The county council issued a notice to the landowner last May, ordering it to clear the waste, which was appealed by the firm.
