EXCLUSIVE: Poultry farm operator tops list of companies breaching environmental permits

An intensive poultry firm has racked up the highest number of environmental permit breaches in the latest year for which data is available, beating waste firms and major industrial plants.

Hook 2 Sisters breached its environmental permits 146 times in 2017, ENDS analysis of Environment Agency (EA) data has revealed. The farm operator, which runs around 450 sites, is a joint venture between poultry processor the 2 Sisters Food Group and PD Hook – one of the UK’s largest chick suppliers.

Nine of the breaches were category 2, meaning the incident could “foreseeably result in a significant impact or effect on the environment, people and/or property”, according to the EA, and were mainly related to odour issues.
