Queen’s speech delay ‘further complicates’ green Brexit plans

Theresa May’s reported reluctance to bring forward a Queen’s speech setting out the government’s next legislative agenda could make it more difficult to pass key environmental legislation before Brexit, a green group has warned.

No official date had been set for a Queen’s speech despite parliament having run out of business to discuss beyond the EU withdrawal agreement, a Downing Street source told the Guardian newspaper on Wednesday.

“There’s no obligation to have one at a fixed point and there’s no immediate plans to bring forward a Queen’s speech,” the source said. The newspaper said that the Queen’s speech could be put off until later this year.
