How standard permitting rules are changing for a range of activities

The Environment Agency has revised conditions for a swathe of permitting conditions for the most common regulated activities. Gareth Simkins investigates

More than 100 generic permits are available for common industrial and business activities that are within certain bounds of risk to the environment, regulated under the Environmental Permitting Regulations. Applying for one avoids the burden of seeking a bespoke permit as no site-specific conditions are needed. These ‘standard rules’ permits cover a range of activities, including discharges to surface water, household waste amenity sites, metal recycling and vehicle dismantling, among many others.
