Wales declares climate emergency

The Welsh government has declared a climate emergency, joining Nicola Sturgeon and a raft of UK councils.

Environment minister Lesley Griffiths made the announcement today alongside environment ministers from Scotland.

The government said the move should send “a clear signal that [it] will not allow the process of leaving the EU to detract from the challenge of climate change, which threatens our health, economy, infrastructure and our natural environment.”

Griffiths said she hoped the declaration would “trigger a wave of action at home and internationally.”
