Net-zero by 2050: Scotland acts while Whitehall waits

Scotland has tabled amendments to its Climate Change Bill in response to advice to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, while Whitehall has said it will pause before acting.

Whitehall has said it will instead reflect on today’s report from the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), which advocates eliminating emissions entirely, other than a residual amount covered by tree planting and other carbon sinks.
