‘Reckless and negligent’ waste firm fined for asbestos and leachate offences

The operator of two waste sites in Oxfordshire has been ordered to pay £42,000 for a number of offences including failing to control leachate levels and storing asbestos without the appropriate permit.

Last month, Oxford Crown Court heard that John Sheehan (Oxford) Ltd failed to handle waste materials properly across a three-year period at its facilities in Glympton. The firm was fined £17,000 and ordered to pay £25,000 in costs.

According to the Environment Agency (EA), the firm did not control the leachate within acceptable levels between 2013 and 2016, “leaving open the risk of pollution”.
