DEFRA claims ‘good progress' on natural capital advice

DEFRA has claimed it is “making good progress” on natural capital in a blow by blow response to the Natural Capital Committee’s recommendations, set out in its latest report.

Published in February, the report’s central recommendation was that the 25-year plan must be placed on “a meaningful statutory basis”.

The government said its draft Environment Bill includes measures in line with the NCC’s recommendation to place the 25-year plan on a statutory basis, with an obligation for the government to report annually against progress.
