Waste industry slams Sadiq Khan’s opposition to EfW

Representatives of the waste sector have described mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s views on energy-from-waste (EfW) as “ill-informed” after he outlined his opposition to a proposed incinerator in Bexley earlier today.

Khan, who is a statutory consultee on the proposed incinerator, said he would oppose planning permission for the site which would handle up to 655,000 tonnes of waste per year and power nearby buildings.

He also outlined his opposition in a report to the business secretary, Greg Clark, in which he said; “London’s air is a toxic air health crisis and the last thing we need in our modern green global city is another harmful waste-burning incinerator polluting our city.”
