Boris Johnson expected to set out climate ambitions this week

Conservative leadership frontrunner Boris Johnson has said he will set out his policy platform this week, which he has hinted will include a number of commitments to climate action and the environment.

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, Johnson endorsed what he described as the environmental values of “One Nation Conservatism”, including more investment in “efficient transport”, “excellent public services” and clean energy research.

“That is how we can invest more in science, and in our universities, and lengthen our lead in batteries and other clean technology, so that we inspire a whole new generation with hope,” Johnson said. “Because this country will be leading the world in tackling climate change and all the other threats to the natural world. With a progressive, green, pro-market agenda we can reach every community and every age group.”
