Hundreds of tonnes of untreated clinical waste left at abandoned incinerator, says MSP

Hundreds of tonnes of clinical waste left at an abandoned incinerator has still not been treated months after the company running it collapsed, according to a Labour MSP.

Healthcare Environmental Services (HES), which was responsible for more than 20 NHS trust contracts, closed at the end of December 2018, following an investigation into potential breaches of its environmental permits relating to the storage of clinical waste.

The company is being investigated by both the Environment Agency and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
