Environment Agency to set up Joint Unit for Waste Crime

A Joint Unit for Waste Crime (JUWC) is being created by the Environment Agency (EA) in partnership with the police and HM Revenue & Customs, in a bid to tackle the growing problem of organised crime in the sector.

The unit is being established in response to the Serious and Organised Waste Crime Review, also known as the Noel Review, which warned that the Environment Agency “has neither the necessary authority, powers nor business model to counter this criminal scourge effectively”.
