SSE to close coal-fired Fiddler’s Ferry power station

Energy firm SSE has announced plans to close the last of its coal-fired power stations next year, claiming its deteriorating financial performance was unsustainable.

The closure of Fiddler’s Ferry Coal-Fired Power Station will reduce the UK’s coal-fired energy fleet to five plants. It follows EDF Energy’s announcement in February that it would close its Cottam coal plant after a winter of record low coal generation.
