‘Out of step’ government rejects MPs’ sustainable fashion recommendations

MPs’ calls for mandatory environmental targets for large fashion retailers and a ban on incinerating or landfilling unsold fashion stock have been dismissed by the government.

The Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) published a report on the fashion industry in February which argued that a voluntary approach to improving the sustainability of the sector was failing. It called for mandatory environmental targets for fashion retailers with a turnover above £36m.
