Chemicals industry 'very anxious' about no-deal Brexit

Leaving the EU without a deal would have “profound effects” on the chemicals industry, the Chemical Industries Association has told MPs.

Addressing the Exiting the European Union Committee, the body’s chemicals policy director Nishma Patel said that no deal would mean “that businesses will face continuous price rises and costs, there will be inefficiencies [and] an impact on getting material in and out of the country.”

Addressing the Commons’ Environmental Audit Committee last year, she said that no deal would have “catastrophic” effects – a phrase she declined to use this time.
