UK citizens’ assembly on climate change to be set up

A citizens’ assembly, made up of members of the public, will be brought together to debate the best ways the UK can reach net-zero emissions by mid-century, including identifying who should shoulder the financial costs.

The assembly will convene this autumn over several weekends to explore views on the “fair sharing” of climate policy costs, including a pathway for reaching net-zero by 2050, wherein the UK would cut its greenhouse gas emissions by almost 100% compared to 1990 levels.
