Biffa guilty of illegal waste exports to China

Biffa, one of the UK’s largest waste firms, has been found guilty on two counts of breaching waste export regulations in a case dating back to 2015.

The Environment Agency (EA), which brought the prosecution, had accused the waste firm of illegally exporting approximately 175 tonnes of household waste to China.

The court heard that the company had tried to ship seven containers of mixed household waste from its premises at Edmonton in north London to China via Felixstowe.

The unanimous guilty verdict was delivered at Wood Green Crown Court yesterday following around four hours of deliberation by the jury.
