Devon landowner pays thousands for dumping 20,000 tonnes of soil illegally

A Devon landowner and a waste haulage company have been ordered to pay more than £6,400 for transporting and spreading soil on land without a waste permit.

Stephen Dibble, who runs a farming business in Halberton, and director Marie Sinead Berry of CB Plant Hire appeared before Exeter magistrates earlier this month having pleaded guilty to the offence in 2016.

Dibble spread 23,500 tonnes of soil transported by Berry’s company on his land in Tiverton to turn it back into agricultural use without planning permission in 2016 – he was only allowed up to 1,000 tonnes legally under a waste exemption.
