New water fine - total payout £200,000

In response to a breach of its environmental permit for a sewage outfall, United Utilities has paid £511,000 charity: £285,000 to the Mersey Rivers Trust, £150,000 to the Cheshire Wildlife Trust and £76,000 to the Community Forest Trust. The firm also agreed to cover the Environment Agency’s costs and conduct improvement works.
