New water fine - total payout £350,000

Northumbrian Water has agreed to make charitable payments, conduct an ecological survey, restoration work and improve infrastructure following a breach of the environmental permit at its West Cornforth sewage pumping station between Durham and Sedgefield. It has also agreed to cover the Environment Agency’s costs.

North East Environment Network will receive £80,000, Tees Valley Wildlife Trust £75,000, Durham Wildlife Trust £75,000 and Groundwork North East - £50,000. Four others received £70,000 in all.
