Responsible for a Met Office team ­comprising more than 500 scientists, Professor ­Stephen Belcher has at his fingertips the outputs of cutting-edge research into the challenges the UK is set to face as a result of a changing climate. It’s a topic that has –rapidly moved up the political agenda. When we meet in late April, David Attenborough’s BBC ­documentary Climate Change – The Facts has just been aired and students from around the world, inspired by Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg, are walking out of school to campaign.
