Aviation growth ‘will blow net zero goal’ say researchers

UK airports’ plans to expand their capacity are incompatible with the pathway for cutting greenhouse gas emissions set out by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), according to researchers from the University of Leeds.

The government has not provided necessary guidance to ensure that the sector plays its part in meeting carbon objectives and “it is clear that the industry itself has not voluntarily coordinated expansion sufficiently,” to meet them, they state in a guest blog for CarbonBrief.
