New food system will ‘restore the natural environment’, says DEFRA

Leon restaurant co-founder Henry Dimbleby has been put in charge of leading a landmark food-system review to determine the creation of a post-Brexit food strategy.

DEFRA said the impacts on soil health, air quality, river freshness, biodiversity and climate change have raised “urgent questions” about how food production can be made “genuinely sustainable”.

The purpose of Dimbleby’s “field to fork” review – looking across the entire food chain in England – is to consider how the UK’s food sector currently operates, setting out options for adjusting government policies to achieve the objectives of a future national food strategy.
