‘The bulldozers are a long way off’: Johnson vague on Heathrow third runway plans

Conservative leadership frontrunner Boris Johnson has refused to say whether he would oppose controversial plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport if he becomes prime minister.

Johnson, asked about his 2015 pledge to “lie down in front of bulldozers” to prevent a third runway, told ConservativeHome he thought “the bulldozers are a long way off”.

He added: “I will follow with great interest the current court cases, because it is still the case that the promoters of the third runway have a long way to go before they can satisfy the legal requirements they must meet both on noise pollution and air quality. And there are many people in west London who would say the same.”
