Parliament demands answers on ‘£1tn’ net zero bill

The Commons’ Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee wants to know how the Treasury arrived at its rumoured £1 trillion estimate for delivering net zero carbon by 2050 and how the country will reach the target.

Chair Rachel Reeves wrote to chancellor Philip Hammond last week, following reports that the Treasury's estimate had opened up a rift with Downing Street.
