Environment Agency planning advice service in record demand from developers

Demand for the Environment Agency’s (EA) planning advice service in England has risen to an all time high, new data shows.

The EA published its annual response times to planning and pre-application enquiries for its latest financial year last week. The figures revealed that the number of charging arrangements applied for by developers, and agreed with by the regulator, climbed from 865 in 2015/16 to 1,203 in 2018/19.

The increase in demand for the EA’s planning advice service enabled the regulator to recoup £1.22m in costs in the last financial year, compared with £0.5m in 2015/16, according to the agency.
