EA flood and water quality planning objections increase by 25%

The number of planning objections raised by the Environment Agency (EA) on flood risk or water quality grounds increased by nearly a quarter between 2017/18 and 2018/19, official figures show.

In total, the EA lodged 3,657 objections with local planning authorities and other public bodies such as the Marine Management Organisation in 2018/19, compared with 2,946 in 2017/18 – a 24% increase.

The findings were reported in the EA’s annual list of initial flood risk and water quality-related objections to major and minor planning applications made in England.
