BEIS publishes nuclear waste facility planning framework

A revised version of the national policy statement (NPS) that will guide the planning decision on an underground nuclear waste facility has been published by the government.

The NPS on geological disposal, published today by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, sets out the national need for an underground nuclear waste facility and the criteria against which the energy secretary will decide development consent applications for such a facility under the Planning Act 2008.
