Ofwat cautions four water firms over business plans

Two water companies have suggested that mandatory environmental investment is in part to blame for Ofwat issuing them with ‘notices of concern’ on their proposed business plans.

Last week, the regulator wrote to Anglian Water, Yorkshire Water and Thames Water, with warnings and issued a statement claiming that the companies had asked to spend significantly more money than they currently do. It said SES Water was seeking increased costs for providing retail services.

Ofwat expects water companies to make a step change in efficiency by 2025, allowing companies to deliver “better services for customers, and protect and improve the environment, while at the same time keeping bills low”.
