Rare lowland bog declared a national nature reserve

Natural England has designated a new reserve to protect lowland raised bog in Cumbria - one of Western Europe’s rarest habitats.

Bolton Fell and Walton Mosses National Nature Reserve, near Carlisle, was opened today by the body’s chair Tony Juniper. It encompasses Bolton Fell Moss site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and the pristine condition Walton Fell Moss SSSI.
