‘Dad’s Army and ramshackle’: UK unprepared for 2 degree temperature rise, say advisers

The UK should be gearing up for a 4°C rise in average temperatures but is not prepared even for a 2°C increase, according to the government’s independent climate change advisers.

The UK should be gearing up for a 4oC rise in average temperatures but is not prepared even for a 2oC increase, according to the government’s independent climate change advisers. 

Speaking yesterday at the launch of two assessments of the country’s progress on climate change mitigation and adaptation, Committee on Climate Change (CCC) chair Lord Deben likened the government to “Dad’s Army” in its approach to preparing for a hotter, wetter, stormier future, describing some of its actions as “ramshackle”, arbitrary and not fit for purpose.
