High Court rejects Ox-Cam expressway habitats legal challenge

A legal challenge over the lack of appropriate assessment for a proposed Oxford to Cambridge motorway has been quashed in the courts because no decision over the final route had been made at the time, the judge said.

In her judgment, issued yesterday, Mrs Justice Lang rejected the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust’s claim that the government had acted unlawfully by failing to carry out appropriate assessments when it proposed three routes for the expressway.

The motorway link between Oxford and Cambridge is part of a £5.5bn project which would see the “brain-belt” linked and developed, with one million homes planned by 2050.
