BEIS earmarks £190m for Brexit preparations

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has identified failing "to prepare for the challenges and opportunities of leaving the EU and the post EU exit environment" as one of the major risks it faces, although believes it has taken adequate steps to mitigate any disruption, including £190m in funding for 2019/20.

In its annual report, BEIS notes it secured nearly £140 million in Treasury funds for the 2018-19 financial year for its Brexit preparations, with a further £190 million for 2019-20. 

Over 1,000 employees currently work full time exclusively on Brexit, BEIS states, with 500 staff temporarily assigned work on contingency plans for the UK crashing out of the EU without a deal
