100 dead birds found floating in loch near ex-culling site

A huge flock of dead birds has been discovered in a loch in Perthshire near to an area where licences to shoot hundreds of ravens were suspended last year due to public anger over culling.

The birds were found floating on Loch Freuchie, located less than five miles from Strathbraan, a former raven-cull area, according to a local newspaper.

All wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 but species such as carrion crows and hooded crows are allowed to be killed in certain circumstances under a discretionary general licence
