The government has published new planning guidance for local authorities on how new developments can provide an increase in biodiversity. The changes to the planning practice guidance, published at the weekend, include entirely new paragraphs on biodiversity net gain. Earlier this year, the government committed to using the forthcoming Environment Bill to make the system mandatory for new development in England.
