Gove goes, Theresa Villiers is the new environment secretary

Michael Gove moves to the Cabinet Office as Brexiter Theresa Villiers takes the environment brief in Boris Johnson’s new cabinet.

Villiers’ appointment comes as Johnson begins his term as prime minister by assembling his team. Villiers served as Northern Ireland secretary between 2012 and 2016, and was previously a transport minister.

In a statement, Villiers said: “I feel honoured to have been asked by the prime minister to take on the role of secretary of state for DEFRA.
