Andrea Leadsom back at BEIS with net-zero responsibility

Former environment secretary and energy minister Andrea Leadsom has been handed responsibility for ensuring the government meets its net-zero commitment in prime minister Boris Johnson’s new cabinet.

Leadsom’s appointment as secretary of state for the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) was made last night as part of the new prime minister’s sweeping reshuffle, which saw 17 out of Theresa May’s 30 cabinet ministers sacked or resign.

Leadsom, who replaces Greg Clark in the role, now has responsibilities including energy, business, science and innovation as well as ensuring the UK government meets its recent commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
