Northern Ireland faces infringement action over ammonia pollution

Conflicting policy in Northern Ireland is responsible for breaches of critical thresholds for ammonia emissions and nitrogen pollution, according to a politician.

Northern Ireland legislative assembly member, John Dallat of the Social Democratic and Labour Party, told ENDS yesterday that current government policy conflicted with the EU’s Habitats Directive, which protects special areas of conservation and its Water Framework Directive, in place to improve a member state’s water quality.
