EA approves plans for Cuadrilla's second fracking well

The Environment Agency (EA) has approved plans for Cuadrilla’s second fracking well at its Preston New Road site.

On Monday, the agency published its Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) compliance assessment report, which sets out measures to ensure that fractures stay within an agreed area, well integrity is maintained and groundwater protected. It must also be approved by the Oil & Gas Authority before fracking can begin on the well, known as PNR-2.

The report was published the day before Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn met with anti-fracking protesters outside the site calling for a ban on fracking as well as urgent action to reduce CO2 emissions, without which the planet will be “doomed”, he said.
