Trade secretary Liz Truss sought US advice on ‘red tape’, documents reveal

Liz Truss, the newly appointed trade secretary, met several libertarian organisations during a trip to the US while she was a junior Treasury minister, official documents show.

Briefing notes obtained by investigative news site Unearthed through freedom of information rules reveal Truss intended to discuss what the UK could learn from the US “on things like regulation and red tape” with the Heritage Foundation, a libertarian organisation closely linked to the Trump administration. 

The notes also say Truss is “personally interested in… exploring supply side reforms” in the UK, according to Unearthed.
