DEFRA to receive more staff as no-deal preparations ramp up

Former environment secretary Michael Gove is expected to transfer more civil servants to DEFRA as part of government preparations to leave the EU by October, regardless of a deal with Brussels.

Gove plans to loan around two thousand staff to the government departments most acutely affected by no deal, including DEFRA, the Department for Transport and HM Revenue and Customs, according to the Sun newspaper.

Civil servants would be redeployed from the Department for Education (DfE) and the Department for International Development (DfID), which are less exposed to the immediate impacts of crashing out of the EU in October.
