Natural England launches 5 peat restoration pilots ahead of overdue peatland strategy

DEFRA and the nature regulator have kicked off five peat restoration pilots in a bid to help reduce the UK’s carbon emissions and inform a long overdue countrywide peatland strategy.

The peatland bogs taking part in the pilots are located in Northumberland, Greater Manchester, North York Moors, East Anglia and Dartmoor and will form part of a peatland strategy for England, which was first promised in the 25-Year Environment Plan with delivery originally scheduled for “late 2018”.
